I'm looking into purchasing an earlier 911. The car I'm currently perusing is a '69 S. Where on this car should all the VIN tags be for me to verify this isn't some hacked together thing?

Any specific areas of concern with these cars I should be looking at?

The tag on the A pillar (if it's a US car), the plate on the door jam, the front under-the-hood plate, and it's written into the steel to the passenger-side of the gas tank, I think.

for 1969, the fourth digit in the VIN# should be a three (3) to indicate its an "S"

What is the difference between 1. the front under-the-hood plate, and 2. it's written into the steel to the passenger-side of the gas tank?

Also, don't some of the years have a number under the dash near the radio?

If you stand facing the car and look at the inside of the trunk, there's a steel plate (it's body color, not an embossed plate) just to the left of the tank. If the tank had four corners, it would be near the passenger side rear corner.

I think it's the chassis number (or a portion of the VIN?) that's hidden near the radio hole.

Thx, Jack. So written into the steel is the other one? Does that mean in crayon or scribed in or?

It's a stamped piece of steel. Usually it's body color, but in this photo it's the black rectangle.
