Sad to say folks, but I have to sell my 'ol 911. I am wondering what I can reasonably ask for it so I thought I'd consult with you folks. It's an 80 911 SC. I'm asking 15,500 in the San Francisco bay area, but I haven't got any one to come look at the car. Where is a good place to advertise? Currently I have it on Yahoo (because it's free). I see a lot of SC's in the 10,000-17,000 range so I figure mine to be reasonably priced. It has 3000 miles on a professionally rebuilt engine (case open, down to the micropolished crank) and trans which composes the bulk of the value as far as I'm concerned. What does a full rebuild cost? (I bought the car with the rebuild) The rest of the car is in decent shape although not pristine. By decent I mean no dents or cracks but some scratches here and there. The car needs new tires and a headliner and that's about it. It has 175K mi on the chassis but it's very tight. How much leverage does the rebuild give me? Should I replace the tires and sell it for 16K? Any info/advice on the subject would be helpful.

Matt,
So sorry you have to give up the car!! I might be able to help you out with the tires, though. What size are your wheels? I have a nice set of Dunlop D40 (not sure exactly the model - I'll have to look) that I just took off a set of 7&8x15 wheels that I bought. I think they are like 205 and 215 or very close to that. They don't have many miles on them. You can have them if you want them. I was going to put them on Craig's List and sell them, but if you want 'em, they are yours for nothing.
Email me personally if you are interested. I'm in SF.

Matt,
Sorry to hear you have to sell your 911. In the August 2001 Excellence, Bruce Anderson listed poor/good/excellent values for 80SC coupe as $11,826/$13,446/$18,000 and for 80SC Targa $11,481/$13,054/$17,475. Of course you need to adjust for conditions in your local market.

Don't do it! You will kick yourself until you get another! Trust me, I know from personal experience. The only way I will ever get rid of mine is when I have a 930 lined up to buy!

I am not sure how much it costs, but Autotrader.com seems to be one of the largest locations for used 911's. I found my car on there and to be honest most of the cars I looked at came from there.

Autotrader.com charges $30 for a "run-till-it -sells" add, which includes a photo of your car.
They also offer free "basic" (very basic!) adds.
Personally, I have bought two (non-Porsche) cars that I found on Autotrader.com. I have also sold one car on Autotrader.com, and currently have a non-P-car for sale there, as well.
In case all this activity on Autotrader.com may make me appear to be a car dealer, I should add that it has been spread out over some 3 years.
