Post Failed emissions

I have a 1980 911SC that just failed emissions on carbon monoxide.
Here's the stats
HC
133 PPM ALLOWED
45.6 PPM READING
CO
1.64 PPM ALLOWED
2.30 PPM READING
NO
2122 PPM ALLOWED
923.4 PPM READING
Any ideas as to how I can fix this? The car only has 83k miles. Thanks

Seth,
I have a 77' 930 that failed e-check its first go-a-round too. Heres the trick to passing. Go to e-check early in the morning when they first open, also, you must clean the engine out A.K.A spirited driving, tell the operator to put your car in 3rd gear, maybe fourth with the 915 tranny. Anyway, you might also want to do this after it just rains and the air is heavy. I almost garauntee your car will pass.
best of Luck,
Pete

washington state doesn't care about NOX, so i'm not familiar if it has to be over or under the limit. did you pass or fail that? the co is an easy adjustment with a gas analyzer.

Seth--a couple suggestions:
1) Listen to John Walker
2) If you're due for a tuneup soon--do it first.
3) Run some Techron thru the engine.
4) Get it good and hot before the test.
5) If you have to wait in line--ask the operator to let you run it a little before the measurments.
Good Luck

How about dry fuel (alchohol)? Or would that show up as 0 emissions :P

I had a 1987 Carrera that failed, replaced the catalytic converter and it passed no problem, of course that would be your last resort. Vertex had the best price for replacement.

I found this stuff called GRC 'Guaranteed to pass' emissions at AutoZone. Should I try that in the porsche?

Seeing as the idle mixture is adjusted by measuring the CO level in the exhaust, I would have your mechanic set the mixture so it will pass emissions, then put it back where it runns best after you pass the test. If you are in California, you won't have to worry about it for 2 years.

Am I overlooking something?
