Post can i paint deck grill?

Hi

The black grill on my engine lid (81 SC)is looking a little tired (faded). Does anyone know if these can be painted and with what kind of product (spray can, etc.)

Thanks
Greg

GREG,
TRY POWDER COATING IT SEMI FLAT BLACK. YOU,LL
BE HAPPY YOU DID. BACK IN MY DAYS OF MUSCLE CARS (EX-OWNER OF A 69 COPO CAMERO) IT
GOT TO THE POINT ON SOME OF THE PIECES THAT
JUST THE PREP TO PAINT THEM WAS MORE LABOR
COSTLY, THAN TO PAY FOR THE POWDER COATING.
I JUST DID MY DOOR HANDELS ON MY 911-CAB
AND THEY CAME OUT GREAT.

You can't powder coat since it is plastic.

Instead of painting, try using a silicone based rubber and tire dressing. I've used Wesley's but there are a number of them on the market.

Use a stiff bristle brush to get between the rails. Take your time.

That tired looking grill will come up like new. And the finish will last a number of months, depending on how much sun and rain it sees.

good luck

Thumbs up

Chuck has the right idea, but if you are anti-silicone like me, another option is 303 Protectant.

Fantastic product for any of the black trim pieces on a 911.

there is also a product called Back To Black that i have found works well. It leaves the finish completely black while not shiney like tire dressing. The downside is that you will have to redo it every couple of months.
