Weight balance question
I am the new owner of a beautiful ’87 Carrera that has been well prepped for the track (thanks to Will & Chuck, prior owners of the car and current Rennlist members.) Unfortunately, due to poor judgment on my part, it is now somewhat less beautiful than it was when I bought it. To make it right I will need to replace the left front fender and door skin, and possibly the left rear fender (think gentle contact with tire wall, just not gentle enough…).
This seems like an ideal time to consider fiberglass. My question is: would using fiberglass replacements for the front fenders do bad things to the balance of the car? While I am at it, should I replace f/r bumpers with fiberglass as well? Would the weight savings from these changes make any significant difference?
A little background note: I mentioned the car had been set up well for the track. Recently I had the pleasure with riding while Randy Pobst drove my car at Mid-Ohio, and he pronounced the car to be “perfect”. Well, almost perfect – he said it could use another 100 horsies.
Thanks!
