Need advice on 1982 SC rims.
Just acquired this 1982 SC up here in Canada. I know that 15 inch rims were standard and 16 were an option in 1982. I did notice a sticker in the rear of this car stating the tire size for this particular car is 16 inch.
The car is sitting on 16 inch BBS rims with 205/55/16 fronts and 245/50/16 rears.
The previous owner was told that these rims were a factory/dealer option in 1982 and he believes them to be original and therefor just spent a bunch of money having them refinished.
Is this possible?
Also I realize the oem Turbo tail is not stock for an SC and will be removed.
Thanks in advance for any input.

double check .. see if you can get a certificate of Authenticity before removing the tail.
I have heard rumours of factory putting the Turbo tail on a non turbo car if you gave them enough money. I have never ever seen it on a COA though. I think it looks unbalanced on a non- turbo really.
Yeah i don't think the factory ever put BBS rims on , but the dealer could certainly have taken the Fuchs off and slapped on some BBS. Which is ironic as Fuchs are now highly sought after and very expensive.
by the way are you 100% they are BBS ? and not some after market knock off . are you sure they are not "BBS style"
would you mind posting a close up of the wheels, they may be the same wheels that came on my car.

Thanks for the reply.
I ordered a PPS ? certificate from Porsche for $150.00 but it's a 5 week turn around. I doubt it will have a ton of info.
I know they stopped providing COA and now charge $500 to have a dealer inspect the car and provide a document similar to a COA.
I agree the turbo tail is too big on an SC. A Carrera tail would look nicer.
Hard to know the origin of the BBS rims on this car. I'm quite sure they are genuine BBS made Mahle rims.

i really don't think they are BBS RIMS, but removing one and looking at the inside would tell you .
Post a bigger pic and i will compare with mine, believe it or not i still have them.

I "believe" (have been told, but you P-historians tell me) that these BBS were another dealer option BBS:
These are 7 and 9x16 3-pc.
Super clean body, and love GRed ...congrats!

they were NEVER a factory option but "back in the day" GOLD BBS wheels were the rage. MANY MANY dealers took off the factory provided fuchs and charged the customers a dealer option charge for the BBS. (made the dealers a bunch of money because they could resell the takeoffs to customers who wanted to upgrade the 16 inch. YOUR car came with 16 inch fuchs, and I would sell the BBS and buy a set of 6x16 and 7x16 fuchs and install if you wanted to make the car more "period" correct

Thanks for the info about what is "factory option." I have zero interest in "period correct." That these are BBS in 7s and 9s make it superb not just for the track, but for "stick": and of course aesthetics is nice. I love Fuchs, but at the price they are fetching these days it's not even a remote thought, lol!

Hey, @bulletproofauto congrats on the clean SC.
FWIW, your gold BBS wheels look really good with the Guards Red. The new Fuchs are always an option, i've owned a few sets and like them quite a lot.
