Default Changing oil '80 911 SC

Getting the oil changed in my friend's P car. He hasn't driven the thing in ages so I'm getting it ready for the summer. He seems to recall there's something special in the way that the oil needs to be changed, something to do with the level or draining it or the engine running, he couldn't remember. He just said that the Jiffy Lube that he had it done at once royal scewed it up once and it cost him hundreds to get fixed. Does anybody know what he could be talking about??

Oh yes, what oil should I use? It's summer here, temp averaging 20-28 celcius during the day.

Thanks,

Nix

OK here it goes. Also do a search on oil changes on this board and you'll get several threads on the topic.

Warm up engine. Let engine cool down, but still warm. Get a large capture pan as the oil rushes out very fast. Undo the drain plug on oil tank and let drain. Undo drain plug on engine and let drain. Change oil filter. Replace drain plugs using new crush washers. Fill with 8 quarts of 20-50 Valvoline or Castrol or your favorite. Start engine and let warm up to running temp. With engine running and on level ground, check dip stick. It will probably not register yet (that's ok). Add about a half a quart at a time until the oil registers halfway between the lower and upper mark on the stick (should take about 10 quarts). DO NOT OVERFILL. It is important that you do this while the engine is at operating temp and is running, as oil expands when it heats up. If you simply fill cold to the upper mark, you will have oil spilling into the air box, etc., and you'll have a great mess and be blowing smoke everywhere. That is probably what happened at Jiffy Lube.

Good luck!

My 80SC takes ten quarts with the oil filter changed. Never missed the mark with 10 quarts.

my '80 SC actually takes exactly 11 1/4 quarts.
Always happy and never an overfill.
I use Castrol GTX, 20w-50
