Default 1970 911T with a 77 911s motor

I recently purchased a 1970 911T (put about 1500 miles on it now). The motor had been replaced with one from a 1977 911S. The car was purchased from a reputable local P-car mechanic. The seller said he had just finished a rebuild on the motor and had given me the receipt for all the work done (I would have to dig it out to see exactly what was replaced). The problem I am having is whenever I rev the motor over 4000 it seems rather flat and sluggish (it just seems to stop pulling). Does anyone have any suggestions on what to look for or what to try? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Fuel filter, fuel pump, catalitic converter, exhaust system, air filter just to name a few. Not knowign whether it is CIS or Carbed that is about as far as I can go. Good year car by the way Good luck!

It has CIS and no cat, it has the old style exhaust (2 in 1 out muffler). I recently replaced the fuel and air filters. So I guess that leaves me with testing the fuel pump. How would I go about doing that. Sorry for the stupid questions I am a bit new to these old cars.

If you are running carbs with the original 77 distributor, your "flat" spot might be partially attributed to the less than ideal distibutor advance curve (intended to be used with a cis injected motor).

I've heard that it is not necessary to re-curve your distributor, so I don't know how much of a difference this will make.

There are guys with direct experience regarding this. Maybe they'll chime in.

Good luck.
