Has anyone fitted a post '89 windscreen & seal to a pre '89 911? If so did you bond it as in the 964 or just fit it with no sealant and if so did it leak? The reason I ask is that I believe that the bonding is to do with the screen supporting the air bags (which I don't have) and the roads here are so bad that I shall probably need a new screen again in the not to distant future. Bonding means that the seal will be destroyed when removing the old screen and I would prefer to save this cost if possible.
Thanks,
Pete

The 964 series windshields are required to be bonded or sealed. This has nothing to do with airbags. The first 964s built were all without airbags and still had sealed with sealant windshields. From May 1990 only US versions were fitted with airbags as a mandatory fit but all 964s still had sealed windshields.
The 964 windshield and seal fit most earlier model 911s and I recommend that you install them in accordance with the 964 installation instructions,

PS: If you have airbags installed you are required to let the sealant cure before driving off. Without airbags this restriction is not applicable but I still recommend you let the sealant cure.
