Post Low Idle

My car (80SC) starts right away when cold. However, it idles at around 600 to 700 rpm and the alternator light stays on until I give the gas pedal a bump. The light goes off but the idle is still low. Recently, after the car is warmed up and I've driven for for a while, (say for 30 to 60 minutes)when I stop, sometimes the idle goes up to 1400-1600 rpm (usually it's about a 1000).

I replaced my airbox (and pop-off) not too long ago, and didn't have this problem before. Could it be related? Does the idle have to be reset?

I don't have a solution for you, but I'll share you misery. I sometimes have a similar problem, but I also have a stumble and sag at very light throttle input. I checked for intake leaks using carb cleaner, but no solution. I may have to pull the CIS system and start from the bottom up.

I have check nearly all the usual suspects, and this weekend, I'm going to check for a possible leaky cold start valve.

I'll let you know if it works...please post a solution if you find one.

Good luck.

Thanks. I'll probably keep looking this weekend.
