Post Brake question

I hear about different calipers. "M", "A" and others. How would I know what I have in my car? I have a 1973 911T Targa. It is an early car #502 with the 2.4L MFI motor. Any help?

Hi Scott:

LOL,....this one is easy,.......

You likely have M calipers on the rear as this is what they all came with.

You might have either M, S, or A (SC) calipers on the front.

Here's what you do:

1) Grab a magnet and see if the front calipers are magnetic or not. If they are, you have the aluminum "S" caliper.

2) If the magnet sticks to the caliper body, you have either the "M" or "A" ones. The "M" ones will appear to be the same size as your rear ones are, which they are. "A" front calipers are larger than the rears.

3) The last sure way to tell is by comparing pad sizes. "A" & "M" calipers use different size pads. "S" calipers use the same pads as "A", only thicker.

Lastly, "S" & "A" calipers use a 3.5" mounting bolt spacing; "M" front calipers use a 3.0" one.

That ought to do ya,

Thanks Steve. After completing your checks, it would appear that I have "M" calipers all arround. I had a set of Mintex brake pads to use, but it turns out they were too large and would not fit in my calipers. They must have been the "A" size.
Anyone need a set of MINTEX "A" caliper brake pads? Brand new in the box. $15.00 plus shipping.
