well i guess we are off in the weeds as to the original question .

if there is a perceived value in the Market attached to a G-50 car that is not attached to a 915 car, Then the only way to find out would be to look like autotrader and other sources for equal cars to compare ( the reasons why the value don't matter ) Then try and ask for that

I had the chance to drive a friends 1979 SC Targa, the transmission had problems.
could not get into 1st gear unless in a dead stop and 2nd gear was very hard to engage.
what is the estimated cost to rebuild the transmission?

it needs first gear synchros , dog teeth and brake bands likely.

It requires transmission R and R plus work. I would think these days even just to do that you are looking at North of 5K , and that is without anything else involved ( which there will always be)

I did mine myself for about 800 in parts and that was about 5 years ago now.

The 87-89 is the one to have, FAR superior car. 86 is worth ten thousand less

Turns out it's not G50, and it's 915. So I'm wondering how much less 915 cost compare to G50?

Thanks

I love the 915 in my 84. Just learn to drive it properly and you'll have a blast.

I had my 915 gearbox rebuilt by Peter Dawe. The entire gearbox was redone. It’s Probably the best shifting 915 I have ever experienced. I would choose a well sorted 915 over a G50 all day! It complements the true mechanical experience and design of the car. Choose wisely!

I think most 915’s running around are pretty tired gearboxes, and few people today have driven one that is fresh and really dialed in. Unless they’ve been badly abused the 915’s are fairly inexpensive to refresh, relative to other sports cars of that era. A great 915 is great fun to shift, and rebuilding mine was the best money I’ve spent on the car.
