OEM Fuchs Finish
I have decided to replace the 7X16 inch rear wheels on my 1987 911 coupe with 9X16 inch Fuchs. My concern is that the finish on the new wheels, which I am buying from a individual who with in the last 6 months bought them from Wheel Enhancement will match the existing wheels on the car. Today I received a picture of them and the black centers had a shine to finish. Almost a gloss.
My car has 20k miles and has always been garaged. The Fuchs on my car have a flat finish to the centers. I contacted Wheel Enhancement and was told that the black centers fade over time and if I wanted my existing 7 inch wheels refinished the cost would be $180.00 each so they would match.
Does anyone have a answer to the question: Is the finish on the black center of Fuchs wheels flat black, gloss, or matt.?
I am very sure that the lip of the rim is anodized clear and the centers are painted

I think the original finish was a semi-gloss finish. W.E. is right about fading though. You'll prolly have trouble matching the fronts unless you find a factory finish set of 9's with the same wear and exposure as your 7's. The other option is to repaint your 7's and the new 9's from the same rattle can.

I've seen several very low mileage and original 3.2's with factory rims over the years. Each time I saw one of these cars, I paid special attention to the rims since I always wanted to know if they came flat or glossy. All of them had the flat black anodized Fuch's rims. My '86 911 had it's original, unrestored rims on it and they were flat black as well.

Poor car you say!!!!!!
It had 16.5k when I biught it in dec of 2003. Granted 3.5k in 5 months is not a lot but, quanity is a poor yard stick for quality.
I enjoy every single mile of it.

Doug: Thanks for the pic. You can get Fuch's pretty shiney with Vasoline or other stuff. That could have been done to your boss's Turbo... I know I always used to gloss up my Fuch's on my '86 with Vasoline to get them to shine a bit more.

Possibly, but I don't see this owner being that **** about them...which is why I believe that's the original finish. Also, this is an '87...perhaps in the later 80s the factory went to a more glossy finish?

Wheel Finish
Because I am the second owner of my car I can't be 100% sure that the finish on my wheels is original but I would be very shocked if anything had been done to them. The previous owner averaged 856 mile a year until 2003 and there was no mention of anything that standard services by the dealer. Hell, it even had the stock ride height. I was puzzled when Wheel Enhancement stated very clearly that the finish on 1987 Fuchs was gloss or as he referred to it as "factory finish".
I was only curious; I like them with a semi-gloss finish.
Tanks for the help

The guy you want to talk with about Fuchs wheels is Harvey Weidman, (530)535-7903. He is the man. His work is outstanding, his knowledge is amazing plus he is very friendly. Check out this thread from Pelican. Those are my wheels on the right side of the rack. A set of 4 deep sixes and a pair of 911R wheels.
