Question 911SC Idle Question

Finally got my 911 smogged and registered yesterday, but ran into an interesting problem.

When the engine is cold it starts up and the idle quickly drops to 980 or so. However as the engine warms up the idle jumps to 1300. To add to the mystery if I remove the oil cap the idle will drop down to 980 when warm and stutter at a pathetic 550 when cold.

The car is just coming off a rebuild and is about to hit the 1,000 mile mark. Will an oil change and timing adjustment clear up that problem or is there something more to it?

When you remove the oil cap, the idle will drop - this is normal as you have broken the vacuum created when the cap is on. Can't help much with the other issues...
Good luck!

The cold idle seems a little low, but the hot idle seems a little high.

My guess: change the oil, do a valve adjustment (not a bad idea at 1000 miles mark for a rebuild), and adjust the mixture again. Then, you will probably want to do more with the CIS afterward if it still acts up.

Mine was doing the same thing, and my mechanic just made a very quick adjustment to the idle (he reached behind the motor from the back of the car, over the top of the motor...no idea where). All of two seconds, and the car rund beautifully now...no cold start or warm start issues.
