...I know that because the specific paint code and German description of the color are indicated on a sticker inside the front truck compartment, on the passenger side.

Porsche used to have a really cool paint to match program. You could literally send them a napkin with a ketchup stain and they would try to match it. (They may still have similar program...don't know). I saw a targa recently that was painted Mercedes Benz "Smoke Silver," which was a color available about the same time as that targa (1988). It was a costly option.
