When your wife is a car girl…

I think she was having a good time🙂. What is a little funny is it was exactly the shift light that she was trying to work out. It kept coming on too early and she would shift and the engine didnt really like it. The road we were on is quite hilly.

Congrats and enjoy in the best of health!
As a wife, and car-girl, and one who has bought several cars without hubbies involvement (but usually with his “blessing”: Cayman R, 993, BMW wagon, Lambo, to name a few) I think your wife and I could be kindred spirits! I’ve also owned two motorcycles (same as hubby: one was dirt-only and the other was street-only). It’s wonderful to share this interest with my husband (38 years). And while he can be irritatingly “puckered” about the cars (staying clean), we often balance each other because I love to DRIVE them (get ‘em dirty) and he loves to WASH them and keep them pristine.
I wish you and your wife many miles of joy!

I have been truly blessed with a partner who is as adventurous as I could want. Cars and driving was a natural extension of our active life and hopefully will always be so. We haven’t done much of any sort of tracking etc but we really like to do our version of Grand Touring in our own style. Her new car is going to be a huge part of the upcoming years and I am really looking forward to each and every one. I am originally from SoCal and currently live in Alabama and the PCA group is fantastic. I live about 4 miles from the Barber Motorsports track and hear everything from the Porsche experience group to F1 cars zipping around but that bug hasn’t bit us yet. Maybe one day!
OK, I learned something new today: Porsche installed a shift light?? Even weirder, way back then?!!! I just rotated the tach

i only know about it because a friend asked me to help trouble shoot his car with a dead tach ... he wasn't sure if it was something in the transmission , the engine or what ... we went for a drive , got 100 feet down the road and told him to pull over, got out and told him he it was the tach...
He asked how i knew in only 100 feet, " because your shift light came on" ..signal is getting to the tach.
he told me it happened after a drive on the highway and all he could smell was rotten eggs for 10 minutes
I told him to get an alternator while he was at it as that's what fried his tach, and a box of baking soda while he was at the store.....
i've never seen such an odd look on someone's face.

I believe the shift light has a dual scheme: very low rpm (2300-2500) to indicate best time to shift for best fuel economy, and also at hard throttle near redline.
Supposedly it's in the manual.

I'm late to this party. My wife has a competition license and co-drives our '67 911 racecar with me. I recently damaged the engine, and she offered to help me rebuild it as a joint hobby. Her street cars are a Toyota Landcruiser and a Porsche Cayman GTS. She doesn't object when I drag her all over Europe racing. And the other day she suggested an advanced racing course for me as a birthday present. I knew she was a keeper when we first met 37 years ago.

According to the owner's manual - it's referred to as CASIS - Computer Assisted Shift indicator System.
"When the CASIS arrow in the tachometer lights up, it means the engine could operate more economically. The light indicates that you can increase fuel efficiency by shifting into a higher gear. During maximum acceleration, the CASIS arrow light will only light up at a point where engine rpm is such that improved acceleration can be obtained by shifting into the next higher gear...."
