Took the plunge and found a very low mileage 1988 Carrera for my wife’s Christmas present this year We’ve been married for 33 years this month and she has always loved her motorcycles and cars. She likes to drive manual trans cars too so a couple of years ago I found her a 1971 LS5 corvette 4 speed which she likes to take country drives in when time allows. Recently we have gotten involved quite a bit with PCA and have been on some fantastic multi day drives which then led to thinking about having an older 911. Not sure of that transition but who am I to argue? And so… found a pretty good condition 911 in her favorite color red and as of yesterday she is the proud owner of an air cooled Porsche! Just wanted to share.

Now that, is damn cool! My wife likes to think she's a car girl but she just "likes" nice cars, she's only ridden in my 911 twice in the last year and has never even asked to go out in it or even drive it.
As a wife, and car-girl, and one who has bought several cars without hubbies involvement (but usually with his “blessing”: Cayman R, 993, BMW wagon, Lambo, to name a few) I think your wife and I could be kindred spirits! I’ve also owned two motorcycles (same as hubby: one was dirt-only and the other was street-only). It’s wonderful to share this interest with my husband (38 years). And while he can be irritatingly “puckered” about the cars (staying clean), we often balance each other because I love to DRIVE them (get ‘em dirty) and he loves to WASH them and keep them pristine.
2300rpm was definitely too low. For general driving the 3000rpm shift point seemed much better. We both really enjoyed driving around in the car and had a great weekend! This is our first “older” Porsche and the first manual as well.
Definitely the shift light. for reference my 84 has it as well. No doubt it frequently suggests shifting at too low an RPM, but it does seem to be load sensitive and will go out with higher throttle and also when decelerating.

Thats interesting info , we dont talk about that shift light much , id be curious technically how it works. I assume it only uses tach signal and no other input ?
She looks a little intimidated in that pic with hands gripping the wheel super tight . looks like my son when i took a pic of his first time in my 911. not sure if he was excited or terrified. . Hopefully that will pass soon and she can do some canyon carving
