Just bought a very nice fully restored 1969's 911E 2.0 liters MFI (140 HP).
The engine has only 6000 km since the restoration.
The car has a matching engine and gearbox.
The engine type is 901/09.
The 5 gear gearbox type is 901/13.
The rev counter which is installed in the car is a 1969 911S model.
If I refer to the transmission diagram of my original owner's manual, I should obtain 80 mph at 3800 rpm (fifth gear).
The problem is that I have to go to 5000 rpm to obtain those 80 mph !!!
Ok thanks but I just have the answer.....the RPM indicator is wrong.
My mechanic just checked it with a stroboscopic light and when it shows 3000 rpm the engine is at 2100 rpm.
Transmission is fine !
I was going to post that maybe the tach is in error, and easy thing to happen , the sound of the engine will tell all, if revving high at 80 then you know something happened to the fifth gear being changed, if revving low, the tach is off
