Default 80 SC exhaust questions

As I'm sorting out the 80 SC we bought this spring, I'm wondering if the Catalytic converter is actually necessary after all these years. One of the Oxygen sensors is gone, and the other is hooked to I don;t know what. It doesn't seem to me that a 1980 emissions system would be necessary or even working after 40 plus years. My questions: Can I replace the converter with a strait pipe? WIl the 'computer' notice? Or maybe even better, what is the favored exhaust system and heat exchanger setup for the 3.0 SC? I'm in Ohio, no emission testing.
Building my winter project list.
Cheers!

i didnt even know an SC had two sensors, likely not. i know at some point they went to a lambda system , but doesnt mean you cant bypass it with a pipe with a bung in it. i wonder if he was running a afr meter and the second sensor was for that ?

Default 80 SC exhaust

I'll take a pic tomorrow and post it. Lambda was mentioned somewhere, maybe the owners manual. I'll check it out too

If you're going to go with a cat bypass , MK is the best option ... the quality and workmanship are exceptional !

"80 SC only has a single O sensor at the cat inlet, If there is something at the cat outlet it's a temp sensor and the car is likely a Japanese version

There is also a dash light, is that on?

Pair of SSI's and a factory muffler would do it for me.

Default Cat replacement

Guys, thanks for the input. Here's a pic of my cat, The O2 sensor can be seen in the background, what is the other rusty nub in the foreground? The steel guard that should be here came with the car but had rusted pretty badly. Could that have been just a mounting point? The car has an OX light on the dash, and it's not on. The manual says it needs to be reset periodically. If I put a bypass or pre muffler on will I still need the sensor?

i think that is exactly what you think it is , a mounting point for the heat shield.
as far as the oxygen sensor on the bypass goes i also think you are correct. I have a 78 ( no o2 sensor ) but the bypass that was on my car had a bung in it for one as well as my SSIs do.
