Default Alternative Exhaust Systems

1985 3.2 Carrera (removed AC, modified air filter, larger throttle body, extrude-honed intake manifold, and customized software)

Has stock heat exchangers - going with SSI. I need heat, so headers are out of the question for now.

Has B & B "TriBLOW" muffler - the name says it all...and so considering alternatives. Not GHL, Fabspeed, or any of the usual names. Looking at Mille Miglia, Monty, and Tubi.

Does anyone have any experience with these?

I just junked my B&B muffler for an $80 Flowmaster.

The Flowmaster is one tenth the cost, and ten times better than the B&B.

An old timer with years of experience building exhaust systems, told me that Dansk NOW uses inferior metal tubing inside the sheet metal, and that he's seen the tubes corrode within the sheet metal, sending CO directly into the car through the heating system.

He said that the company used to make high quality products, but no longer. He also said that you can prove the inferior quality by running a magnet around the ports...it will adhere, when it shouldn't.

Scarier yet, he's cut into the Dansk "sport" exhaust, and discovered that it is really the OE exhaust with larger outlet pipes welded over the smaller outlet holes!!!!!!!!!! Yieks.

My Dansk does not seem inferior - actually just the opposite

...nothing personal there on the Dansk, G-50. Just relaying what I was told by the most recognized heat exchanger expert in the biz.

Has anyone checked out the Lenz system? It has real headers, then 100 cell cats that make heat for the interior, then a jewel-like muffler.

D Hanson is big on the Lenz - looks very interesting - know anybody with the 3.2 Ultra?

I would like to try the "Powerflow" version first, but Lenz seems to be in startup mode here in the States, and they no longer provide the headers and exhaust! Only the system and the cats. Hmmm.

Might now require some custom fabrication from S-Car-Go and Jerry Woods Phase 9s.

You rarely hear complaints about Dansk. I have one and am very pleased. It also sounds like a Porsche ought to sound.

What is a Porsche supposed to sound like?

With B&B TriBlow they sound deep and rumbly; with Dansk they sound growly; with Tubi they sound throaty; with race pipes they sound like motorcycles; with stock exhaust they sound like bird farts!

2ND vote for Flowmaster. Wonderful tone. Be careful can be a bit too loud sometimes. Cheap enough where it's practically disposable if you don't agree with it.

We've had very good luck with the Monty mufflers.

They make a bit more power than Dansk, are constucted better and carry a lifetime warranty.

LOL,..they are much easier on the ears inside the car than Flowmasters, too,.....
