Default Second gear is slow and hard-why?

Sometimes, especially when I tear-***, my 1981 911SC is difficult and slow going into 2rd gear. It does not grind. I read somewhere that a charcteristic of the 915 tranny is that it won't go into to gear until its good and ready. Is my problem with second gear fixable or just characteristics of the 915 tranny?

Default

For me, that particular "characteristic" has been intermittent. Sometimes, it's reluctant to go into gear and, at other times, it goes into gear happily. It usually ends up with me staying "clutch-in," going into another gear, going back to 2nd gear, then "clutch-out."

It might just be because the 915 is insisting that I "pause" before shoving into 2nd from 1st for all I know, though!
