Default Is this a scam?

Hi,

Please help!

I am talking with the owner of this vehicle, its a 911 targa 1975. Seems like a nice guy, fell on hard times and must sell his project car - which is devastating. He says he has a guy lined up to put the car back together for him for an extra $3K. I havn't seen the car yet, and its way too cheap to actually be what it is - IMO. So naturally alarm bells are going off. Has anyone come across this kind of thing around here? He is looking for a minimal deposit to start the work (around 500) and says there is also someone else interested. The car is in texas and Im in NY. It was advertised on NY craigslist - he says nobody in houston has interest and feels he must sell it in NY or LA. Scam!?

Thanks!!!

Too good to be true. 99% likelihood this is a scam.

But were I looking to buy... My SIL lives in Houston. I'd ask the seller if I could have her take a look at the car. She doesn't know lick about cars, but the "seller" doesn't know that. I'd ask the seller if she could stop by and look, realistically just to verify the car's for real. Because it's not, he'll come up with some excuse why that's not possible.

Move on.

yup exactly ... first get an exact address where the car is ... google earth it and street view, and then ask if your "buddy" can just come check it out .. then you will know

100% scam.

It’s also listed for sale in the SF Bay Area. Sounds as fishy as the 991 parts for sale in the Market Place.

yup ask for his phone number, name and address. All can be checked for cross reference. That is what we do when the first time customers Porsche parts orders come into us. If the address matches the name matches the phone number matches the location of the car (google maps will have a pic of the house and all he has to do it take a pic of the car in that garage for you from the street) (all on the internet) then the guy is probably legitimate)

Even just this bit, does it make even a shred of sense to you?

Default Scam

Thanks for all the input everyone. He sent me a number, name and identification. He also said his wife was in hospital with cancer and face timed me from a hospital. BUT didn’t show me any convincing pictures of the car. That’s when I came on here to see if it was a know scam. Said he wouldn’t be home for 2 days when I asked him to FT With the car. When I reached out 2 days later he said he had taken a deposit already. I guess we’ll never know but I think it was a scam.
