Be careful - that's all I have to say... My wife brought ours home from a late meeting one night. She comes in with a **** eating grin on her face telling me we might need the tires balanced... I ask why is that? she responds - well I detected a little shimmy above 120

the only thing i would worry about with a 84 3.2 is that it is the first yr of that motor and i think there were issues with valves or valve guides. the montronics is nice but you also have to say with chain tensioner upgrade and pop-off valve done the sc will last you 200-300,000 miles. besides the difference in motors the cars are the same so condition would be the only difference. I have a 3.0sc cab an with the original motor it was bullet proof. and with a intake and GHl miuffler i was just as fast as a 3.2 . i dropped a turbo motor in my car.

The 3.2 gets better milage, runs smoother, and has more power than the 3.0. Due to the longer stroke the 3.2 gennerally won't last as long as a 3.0. I had a 3.2 for 140,000 and it was still running great when I sold it(no oil leaks, good compression). Its depends on the codiion and milage of the cars you are looking at. A 200,000 mile 84 might not last as long as the same 83. However a 100,000 mile 84 will be better thana 140,000 83. It depends.

I would look for the best car, regardles of whether it's an SC or a Carrera. The SC does seem to have THE best reputation for very long life. A given amount of money should get you a better SC than it will a Carrera. When I bought my '81 Coupe ten years ago, it was simply the best car, condition-wise, I could find. I bought it with 39,000 miles in truly pristine condition, and it now has 68,000 miles and is still pristine. It has been extraordinarily reliable, costing me less than $600 total in unscheduled repairs over the ten years and almost 30,000 miles I've driven it.
Unfortunately, it looks like I may have to sell it.

SC vs 3.2
My first 911 was an SC. I still have it. I've had two '87's, a Targa and a Cab. The SC has much more low end grunt and feels more like a sports car. The 3.2's are much smoother and the '86-up models have much better HVAC. I sold both '87s and kept the SC. It doesn't have the top end of the 3.2 but I just like the feel and oil/leather smell of the car.

I concur with pretty much everything that was said.
The SC feels like it's got more low-end "off-the-line" grunt but the 3.2 feels like there's more power after you get moving.
As much as I liked the feeling of how I could "launch" the SC I owned for three days from a stop, I traded it in for a 3.2 because I liked the feel of harder acceleration when already in motion even more.

My 1986 911 Targa's for sale. And my fiancee has family in Houston.

993chaz and g-50cab,
I'm running 7's & 9's with a ride height of 24-1/2" rear and 25" front, my fuchs are actually chrome plated, 205/55/16 front and 245/45/16 rear, absolutely no rubbing or issues. I did install a pair of adjustable spring plates in the rear.
Heres a better side view for ride height.

Mine are Porsche Part # 951 362 117 00 16 x 8 Fuchs Fronts - largest factory fuchs front you can put on a 911. 225/50/16 Yokohama AVS Sports
16 x 9's Turbo Fuchs - 245/45/16 Yokohama AVS Sports
The front lips have been rolled - a little more aggressively on the driver's side front. Rear lips are stock.
I'm about 1/2 an inch higher than 99chaz. My Fuchs are not chromed - but polished by gentleman Al Reed of California. Here's the money shot...
