Post Missing VIN Plate

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have an 86 Carrera. There is no VIN plate on the drivers door pillar. Under the hood behind the latch there is a sticker that lists the chassis/trans/eng numbers and specialty codes. This does not list the Gross vehicle weight etc. I am wanting to bring my car to Germany with me on vacation and I know that the port authority will want to see the VIN plate particularly for the vehicle weight. A check of the title indicates no foul play.
Did Porsche not install a VIN plate ( like you see on all american cars etc) on the car?
If so where can I get one installed?
Any help would be appreciated

I'd contact Porsche customer service in Atlanta or your local dealer to determine how to get a replacement sticker. Customer service is at 800-porsche.

Ihave a sticker on the car under the hood behind the latch. What I am asking about is the VIN plate that is (usually riveted) to the door pillar (if one in fact was on the car).
A vin number is riveted to the windshield pillar, one in the trunk under the carpet just above the fuel tank and one on the passenger side fender well for the color code. VIN number matches on all three.

I assumed you were talking about the sticker on the drivers door surround that has date of manufacture, vin, and the general manufacturers information. On both my '81 and '93 they are stickers, not riveted plates.

That is the sticker or plate that I am talking about. The one under the hood only has vin/eng/trans numbers on it. The only sticker I have on the car is a bar code on the passenger door sill.
Should I contact PCA?

AFAIK all US 911s of recent years have a VIN sticker on the driver side door jamb. If it is not there, I would assume it has been removed, painted over or maybe it is a euro model. You can try calling PCNA but I doubt they reissue VIN stickers.

Did you ever get the VIN plate issue resolved? I have the same problem with my '85 euro 911 I bought recently. My door has been painted, so I figured it was removed then. The problem is I cannot register the car in Calif without going through a battery of tests which cost $1500+.

The US sticker says it meets applicable US laws, which the Euro sticker wouldn't say, so it might not help you avoid the tests.

Yes I have gotten it resolved. After talking with Allen Caldwell of PCNA Tech committe I went to my local Porsche Dealer (Rusnak of Pasadena) and filled out the paperwork paid the $95.00 and I should have the new certification label in about 6 weeks. Found out that the car has been repaired on the lower B-Pillar and that is why the sticker has been removed.
Car has been repaired to an almost (to the trained eye) unnoticeable condition.
Allen Caldwells number is 206-937-0850 his email address is allen.caldwell@juno.com or he can be contacted through PCNA web page.
If I can be of further assistance let me know.

I believe Allan Caldwell belongs to the Porsche Club of America (PCA) not Porsche Cars North America (PCNA).
