Post Insurance Rates and Companies??

Any feedback on what the rates etc are for later (early '80's) 911's.

For an example. My insurance agent quoted me $461 every 6 months for full coverage on an '85 Targa, 5 spd, 90k miles as a weekend driver. $250 deductible with replacement value. We have 3 other cars with this company and haven't had a claim in 10 yrs+.I haven't had a ticket in 11 yrs and no accidents since 1981.We live out in the country in the midwest.I'm 48yrs old.Do you think this is a little high??
Thanks!
Gary

That does sound a little high to me. You might consider upping the $250 deductible. Mine's at $1000, and it lowered my rates considerably.

But wait -- are you in London, UK? If so, then I have no idea what the UK insurance market is.

Good luck!

I'm a member of AAA and I also purchase my insurance from them. It is more reasonable then any other carrier I've checked with.
'80 SC ~$600/year
'96 993 Coupe ~$700/year

Full coverage--Collision/Liability
No mileage limits
$500 deductable
$250 comprehensive deductable
Paid monthly on a sliding scale (1st payment ~$200, last ~$50)

Look in the Yellow Pages and find an Independant Agency that represents a number of insurance companies and call them. They can rate with more that one insurance company and find the best premium. Usually, an agency that represents Progressive will also represent other insurance companies. The direct insurance companies seem to be cheaper on the normal, family cars with normal, clean driving record, drivers with no teenage drivers, at least in South Carolina.

Gary, I pay Nationwide
$420 a year for an '88
$275 a year for a 77
Just moved to metro Atlanta a year ago and was amazed how much the rates went up from rual Pennsylvaia.

Also Check Leland West, they give quotes on-line for agreed value limited use cars.

I'm paying $428/year through Leland West (check them on-line) for collector car coverage on my '88 Carrera. Agreed value is $25K, I'm allowed 5K miles per year, and my wife any I are the only covered drivers. And I've had a 2 speeding tickets in the last 3 years. They make you jump through some hoops to apply but it's worth it.

How about insuring a 84 Carrera, "weekend car" for $250/year for agreed $16000 value and 2500 anytime miles. That is fairly amazing considering that I live in the MetroNYC area. Check out American Calssic Insurance, Cherry Hill, NJ.

Just for another point of reference, I'm with Hagerty Insurance w/my '69. Classic car status. Agreed value is $20,000 (probably high), 5000 mi. limit/year. Premium is $250/year, no deductible. However, they do have limitations on use, storage, driving events, etc. Check this out.

Shop around until you get the best deal on the features that are most important to you.
