Default How do you know if 915 or G50 gear box?

As per title, is it visually possible to tell of a 3.2 C has a 915 or G50 gear box? Or is there any other way of finding out?

The G50 shift pattern has reverse gear fully to the left-forward, adjacent to first. If I recall correctly, a 3.2 915 has reverse fully to the right-back, below 5th.

If you have trouble shifting into first or second gear it's a 915.....

If people refer to their car based on the type of transmission it has, it's a G50. E.g., I drive an '85 911, but some people might drive an '87 G50, or so they say.

it's a G50 if your grandmother can drive it easily.

I thought the same thing. Neither of my grandmothers ever drove.

Apologies for the late reply… and thank you for all of the input.

I am surprised to hear I have a 915 as I’ve always said how easy my car is to drive. I must get a spin in one with a G50 gear box.

I have a Testarossa which is a few years newer than my 911 but that is much much much harder to drive, hence I presumed I had the ‘easier’ 911 gear box :-)

Who cares how the Testarossa shifts ... as long as you can hear that V12 at redline speeds.
The Ferrari V12 sounds are like music !

Cheers

Thanks Phil. The Testarossa has a Flat 12 engine so it doesn’t have the sound of the traditional v12. However, as cool as the Testarossa is, I choose the 911 over it almost everyday :-)

Default G50 Shifter

Does anyone know of a good source for this shifter? I can source the more traditional leather wrapped shifter but need one that looks like this for my build:
