Hi and Happy Easter!
I've just mounted a set of of Fuchs 7*16 with 205/50 in front on my Carrera 3.2. I knew that the fenderlips would be a problem and I was thinking of folding the lips but I'm now thinking of a different solution.
I'm wondering if it would be possible to turn the inside of the hub in a lathe a couple of millimeter. That combined with some negative camber should do the trick and I can keep the lips as they are.
Any thoughts on this solution?
Best regards
Anders

Hi Eddie
I belive that ther is only one offset on 7*16 Fuchs and that is 23,3 mm. I have zero camber at the moment, intact fenderlips and there is not a chance that they wouldn't make contact when depressed. I also use 21 mm torsionbars in front.
What rideheight did you have on your cab?

The hubs can be shortened but it's not recommended, they arent overly strong to begin w/
Instead of folding the lips I prefer to cut them away, leaving only a small ridge for strength. Seal the edge to prevent corrosion.

lf you talk to enough people you`ll find out that due to the largely handmade nature of the earlier cars what works and doesn`t rub on one car won`t automatically work on another of equal or similar vintage.l think the clearence problem usually surfaces at the left front fender lip on the 911.On the 356 it`s the rt.rear.l don`t think a millimeter or two of machining will be cause for concern as there`s plenty of strength due to typical german overengineering.l`d roll the fenderlips and not cut,you get the same clearance benefit and don`t lose strength from lost material. IM best of luck with it,there`s always a solution and with these cars, always someone willing to help

Thank's raceman,
One of the the reason for not rolling the lip is that most of the cars I've seen have cracked the galvanization then and as a result of that also the paint.
It would also be nice to keep the originality of the car, ...bodywise that is.

My 81SC was quite lowered, and didn't have problems with 7x16's Fuchs, what camber do you have? I do know several who ground the fender lip away, instead of rolling it. 8x16's is a different story....

Most cars don't have an issue w/ 7x16 & 205/55 the 8x16 225/50 is the real issue. Depending on use -1.5 can easily be used.
With shaved lips I can use 235/45x17 on wheels that have atad more +o/s than Fuchs.

Back when I had Fuchs on my car, I used 951 7 x 16 with early 930 brakes and euro ride height - no problems. If you decide to roll the fender lip to avoid cracking the paint use a heat gun to warm (do not burn) the paint.
One good reason why grinding or cutting away the inside lip is recommended versus folding or rolling, is that dirt and water can collect up in there which will result in oxidation.
Good luck.
