Garage find, 82 SC, 135k miles, what's it worth....?
Hi all,
Transplanting from the turbo section ... But have a couple of questions...
The below car - fresh paint, fresh gearbox rebuild, no accidents, fresh seat re skin, etc etc.
Sitting in a garage for the last eight years, needs a front oil line, probably new rubber, will be delivered serviced...
Can anyone give me an idea of what it is worth?
Cheers,
Andrew

I think that struts and labor associated with putting it back together, fluid change, line, etc, should run upwards of $4 - 5k CDN, but I am not sure how to value the car against the work that needs to be done. It needs tyres too.
I climbed all over it yesterday, lifted it up, checked the underside for impact damage, as well as the inside, suspension points and sills, nothing notable. It also seems to have a red engine case and I do not recall the engine case being red on the 85 targa I just sold, so also a bit of a puzzle.

all cases are aluminum not red, so engine has been out and a bit of bling painted on it , unless you are talking about the shroud. ( I can not see any posted pics while at work BTW )

The engine photos did not come out well, so I didn't post them, but that was what I thought.
I'll see if I can get some more.

It also has pure chrome trim, which I thought was an 'S' option from earlier versions, late sixties, early seventies, but I may be mistaken.

no, Bright works was available , but was not standard after 78 i think , the black became standard.
My 78 is a Brightworks Targa ( all chrome trim. ) some of it has been modified since it was bought and repainted but it still does retain full chrome trim around doors and targa rear window. It was removed from the front when they painted to hoop black.

I do not recall ever seeing an SC without black trim, I do, however, recall seeing an 'S' (76 I think if memory serves...may have been a Carrera, but I may also be wrong...) with it, and of course all kinds of late 60s, early 70s with it.

My 79 is a chrome-trim Targa like Iceman’s. I agree chrome on a 1982 would be kind of rare.
A 1982 SC should have the red shroud over the engine.
When you say that the car will be delivered serviced, you mean running? The CIS fuel injection doesn’t like to sit and could be expensive to get working right if it’s not running now.
If there is no rust by the battery and the head studs are intact, and it’s running well, maybe $40k US?

So, you're thinking about 40k?

That may be a little on the high side. I'm not really sure. I think BAT pricing tends to go unrealistically high, but you could check the completed auctions on BAT and eBay, and the classifieds at Pelican. There are some folks here that have bought recently, they would have a better sense of the current market. I also don't know if Canada pricing might be different.
I didn't see anyone else giving an estimate, so I thought I'd get the ball rolling.

Thanks Mark, appreciated.
I'm trying to gauge what a good purchase price would be, and if I if I were to put the time in to bring the car up to spec, also, what that would be worth.
As far as I can tell, after initial inspection, it has never been hit, has relatively low miles on it for what it is, and appears to have been kept well - all records, parts, servicing are documented - gearbox was rebuilt to the tune of $7k CDN... which I like.
The '85 I just sold was a single owner, 50k mile car targa that went for 60k usd on BAT... I was pretty happy with that. With this one, I see potential - panels are straight, paint is very good, there is some surface oxidization on the top of the engine bay, but that can easily be dealt with, and I have seen this before, so it doesn't bother me. The battery box, as you noted earlier, was a point of detailed inspection, but it was rock solid, so again, happy.
I do believe the coupes to be more desirable to the market, but the guys who love their targas, really LOVE them...
