Default 915 shifter advice

As original owners of 1984 TARGA approaching 130K my wife is going nuts with the shifting. It was her daily driver for many years prior to 2000. Do we just buy the $20+ plus parts from Pelican,Get Porsche short shift kit or spend the $$$ for the WEVO shifter????????

new bushings will solve all your problems, esp. if your wife is used to the stock 'feel'

you can also blue print the shift tower using instructions at Sherwood lee's website, renn___ - maybe rennshift?

Wevo and etc. give a tighter feel but more NVH

the only short shift kit you should get is the Porsche one, and it is a trade off

Keith, r911 is absolutely correct IMHO. Replace your 2 shifter bushings and shift coupler and consider a rebuild of the pedal cluster. You may even want to replace the clutch cable and adjust it and you may find that it has a totally different feel after. That cluster of work transformed my shifting experience in one fell swoop!

After my 915 rebuild, and working to fine tune the Wevo 915 shifter, I think I understand the criticisms of the Wevo. It puts a lot of sideways pressure on the shift rod, which is not good for the shift forks. I think I will go to the factory short shifter myself.

the location of the L shaped bracket is the only thing people wonder about - on top of or below...

anyone know if you can replace a wevo with a OEM short shifter without pulling the whole assembly out? Really don't want to pull the new carpet up to do this job, but from all the "how to install the short shifter threads", no one seems to say you can do it with the shift base still in the car. Thanks

These threads always make me smile ... the first question i will ask is what " going nuts" means ? what exactly her symptoms are or specifically what the issue is ? i would not want to throw out suggestions without even understanding the complaint.

I mean coupler bushings, adjustments, new cup bushing, new transmission and motor mounts all may fix it , its just kinda good to understand what the issue is before throwing out suggestions.

Well said Ice, was wondering same! As far as a short throw, the Porsche one hands down and it shortens the throw by 1/2.

Going nuts meant that after 37 years of owning the car the sloppy shifting was getting worse and driving her nuts
