Difference in factory "flares"???
Guys (and Gals),
I just purchased a '76 911s. The other night while going out to dinner I parked my car directly behind an '87 or '88 Carrera coupe and was noticing the differences in the lines. Does anyone know the difference in inches or fractions of an inch of the fender flares on the different models??? I also noticed a difference between the fender flares on my car and the SC's. Next to the later models, my car really does look like a narrow body car.
Thanks!

Race Car
The SC/Carrera flare was added in 1978, and continued to 1989.
Before that, the rear flares were 2 inches narrower, with slight changes to the lip part as wheels got wider.
But basically, any car from 1965-1977 will have the narrow rear end.
You can have flares added to the earlier cars, if you want to run wider wheels.

The proper flare might be different for a Bayou Cajun vs. a Prairie Cajun....
You really need to think about the aerodynamic effect of the different wind loads.
Laissez les bon tons d'911 roulez!

Thanks for the responses.
Randy, I am of the Bayou variety!!!! If I blindfolded you and let you walk off my mother's back patio, you couldn't walk 15 paces without stepping into the bayou!!!
Jack, I have to tell you that your car is a work of art. I am going to start tracking my car this summer, and eventually turn it into an all out track car when I get out of grad school. Because of my future plans for this car, I am only interested in the 78-89 non turbo look.
Also, I forgot to ask if there any real difference in the front flare measurements???
How difficult/expensive is this conversion? How hard is it to find someone that can do the work without making the car look pieced together?
Thanks again.

64-68 cars have no flare, just a small lip. 69-77 have a small flare. My 74 Carrera has the same flares as my 93 RSA which are the same as the SC and Carrera. These were different from the 73 RS flare which had a wider lip. Some early 74 Carreras have the 73 style flare. Front fenders were the same 74-94. I beleive the front flares were the same 69-94. That should cover the non Turbo flare history! Hope this helps.
Best,
Don

Since you are in the Byou area then the wind speed should be a little lower (-; (esp. if the hurricanes get so bad that Cafe du Monde has to shut down.
BTW, I am one of those "yankees" from Baton Rouge -- now an expat in Orygun.
Good luck!
