I am looking at getting my first air-cooled. I can do some basic maintenance but wouldn't want to do more serious stuff. I live in Knoxville and was wondering if people might know a good shop for repair of older porsches. Thx.

Check out Eurotech Knoxville, I have not used them as I do my own work but other folks speak highly of them.
The owners are also very active in the local PCA region.

I found Skip Trammell 865-244-0148 he was recommended by the Porsche dealer to me been working on air cooled ones for almost 40 years. I have an 83 SC Had the broken head stud issue and talked to him.
Long story short he rebuilt my engine top and bottom end has a shop and lift in his garage behind his house. Knows every part by memory. I highly recommend him he did a great job for me. Nothing is cheap about owning an old Porsche but he worked with me and was very fair about everything he did for me and most of all stands behind his work.
