Default Looking for tires

Time for new tires on my “83 SC . I use 205/55/ 16 on the front mounted on 7 inch rims and 225/50/16 on the rear on 8 inch rims. I ordered Bridgestone RE 71R tires but when they came to my dealer their manufacture date was 50th week 2018 and I refused them for being over a year old . So now I’m looking at alternate tires . I would like summer performance tires. The car is driven less than two thousand miles a year for Porsche events and shows .... and the occasional spin around the track . Michelin does not make the 4s in those sizes . Any suggestions

Front et is 23. Rear et is 10

How long do you expect the tires to last? RE71s have little tread and wear quickly, I wouldn't be concerned about year old tires

Other 205/55 or /50 & 25/50 choices;
Yokohama Advan A052, very sticky
Yokohama AD08R, sticky
Toyo R1R
Pirelli P7classic, P Zero Rosso
Hankook R-S4
Dunlop Direzza
Conti EC Sport
BFG Sport Comp

Michelin Pilot Exalto PE-2. I put these on last fall and have been quite happy with them, Treadwear 240, Traction A, Temperature A. $162 for the fronts, $192 for the rears. Tire rack has them, full set $716 plus installation.

I agree, the tire rack and michelin, call and ask for Denny at extension 321. He is a real Porsche guy and will set you up with the right tire and a great price.

Default I just bought 4 new tires for my 88 Carrrera...

Same sizes you want. I originally wanted the Kumho Ecsta PA51. The tires they replaced were Kumho Ecsta SPT, which served me well (~17K miles on them). The problem is they are 6 to 7 years old. I am starting the see the negative effects of old tires. I ordered the replacements from America's Tire, but I learned that they were manufactured in the 22nd week of 2018. Already almost 1-1/2 years old. So, I tried Tire Rack and another local tire shop. All were the same age as America's Tire delivery.

So, I changed to Hankook Ventus V2 Concept 2. The delivered tires have a much newer manufacture date. They are 500 AA and A rated. So far, the tires have transformed the handling and given a quieter ride. I know its not fair to compare 6 year old tires to new tires, but the change was dramatic. I am happy so far with the purchase. I paid $85 for fronts, $92 for rears, before M & B, taxes, disposal, etc. Tire Rack has similar pricing on these.

I don't put enough miles on the 911 to be getting high mileage out of it's tires. I will be continuing to replace tires based on age.

Moral of the story, check the manufacture date on tires ordered.

Michelin Pilot Exalto PE-2 is the period correct and style of tire. Unless you are agressively tracking or auto crossing the car as they won't have the ultimate in grip. But they grip well, and look right, and more importantly "Feel right" for the older cars.

I was just about to search here for some advice also. I have the original (i believe) 16" rims on '87.
These are the sizes on the current setup (had new tires on when i bought it 2 years ago)
205/55-R16 and 225/50-R16

The fronts are COMPLETELY worn. 2/32 on the inner...after 3000 miles...wheel bearings were bad..need to get an alignment done. rears are at 7/32. Thinking of just getting two front tires for now and switching to Michelin later..any thoughts?

CONTINENTAL EXTREME CONTACT SPORT (340 treadwear) - CURRENT

Other options:
MICHELIN PILOT SPORT A/S 3 PLUS (500 treadwear)
MICHELIN PILOT EXALTO PE2 (240)
BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE71R (200)
BFGOODRICH G-FORCE COMP 2 A/S (400)

In Australia Bridgestone RE003's are the popular choice for air cooled cars in 16" sizes. I don't think they're sold in the USA by Bridgestone but are marketed to you guys under the FIrestone brand ie "Firestone Firehawk Indy 500" which is the same tyre. A super cheesy name but a high performance tyre that suits AC cars and won't break the bank either.

That's a really wide assortment of tire capabilities, I'd focus on what you want from a tire, ultimate grip? go w/ RE71, all season use? Michelin A/S 3 , something else one of the others

+1. I have been running the Michelin A/S3 for a few years, and now the A/S3+ for about six months on my 1985 911, and I am quite happy with them. My primary objective is to be able to run the tire in all temperatures, and handle just about anything non race track related. Mike
