Default Moving from Hawaii to Rhode Island

I'm moving from Hawaii to Rhode Island this summer - wondering if anybody knows if there are are state smog control regulations there that will require me to put the catalytic converter back on my 78 SC (not required in Hawaii). From what I could tell on the RI DMV website, it's not required.
Also any recommendations on Porsche mechanics around the Newport area?
Thanks!
Doug

Don't worry about it, your car should qualify as an antique (25 years or older). No more inspections, no more tag changes.

Check with the Rhode Island DMV, on the web.

First, welcome to the area! We have a small group in the RI/SE Mass area that gets together occasionally for breakfast, etc. Once you are settled give me a shout and I can let you know what is going on.

Second, LL Bean is not on the way from HI to RI! Theres a good surf shop near second beach in Newport where you can get a wetsuit, though. You'll love cruising the roads to the east of Newport and into SE Mass. Take a ride to Sakonnet point sometime.

Thanks, Guys -
Looking forward to some open road driving. As beuatiful as it is, you can only go in circles here on Oahu!

Doug

Doug, your car is exempt from emissions in RI. You will only need a safety insp. every two yrs.

Email me when you get to RI, we will have a few breakfast/ drives this summer.

I'm across the bay in Wakefield.

regards,
Jim

Thanks for the info, Jim -
Very helpful. I've debated whether to bring the car or sell it here - it was originally sold in Honolulu and has never left Oahu. I plan to bring it and at least drive it during the warmer months.
I'll get in touch, once we're settled.

Doug

Oh, and German Motors in Providence has a good reputation. They are about 40 min. from Newport.

I lived in South Kingston for a year Doug! Great area to drive around in, the winters are long, but spring, summer and fall are GORGEOUS!!!!!! Best wishes - Jay Gratton
PS - Look up a PCA event with NER or NCR when you get settled.

I think the shipping cost is about $800 between Hawaii and California. Not sure about to the east coast.
Thanks, Jim/Jay - looking more and more forward to driving in New England. This is my first Porsche (I've had it for 3+ years) and I've only driven it in Hawaii.
Appreciate the scoop on German Motors in Providence - as much as I'd like to do some of my own work, I more importantly want to make it to work in my car the next day!
Doug
