Another day hiding away in the garage working on the SC. Decklid grille finally installed, pretty happy with how it turned out. Made some great progress on the rear carpet today and re-installed the upper trim. Tomorrow will focus on side/front carpet (easier said than done).
My first and last carpet install is finally complete. AppBiz "Lightweight Plush" RS carpet kit. Good as long as you don't get too close. What a nightmare, lol. Two light brown trim pieces remaining which my leather guy is going to come dye black soon. Side note, could not believe gas prices on my way home. Great time to own a fleet of gas guzzlers I guess.
Getting to the stuff that I enjoy the most now...the little details that make a huge difference. Rubber door sills were beat up, so replaced with a new pair from Sierra Madre. Now taking the car home for a while to enjoy before sending off to have the rear bumper/valance done.
Maybe controversial mod, but really for practicality more than looks. I guess I've become too accustomed to modern Porsche's with their ambient lighting everywhere...so the SC at night felt uncomfortably dark. Installed 2 little LEDs under the dash, wired into the defrost backlighting so they come on automatically with headlights. Looks much more soft white in person (not as blue as on camera), but I think I will dim them just a little bit. Either way, nice to be able to see a little better at night.
Figured I would make a fresh consolidated list for any new readers on what's been done to this SC to change things up from it's bone stock past life. I started to add up receipts from this whole ordeal and my eyes started to water. Here we go...
EXTERIOR
- 8x16 and 9x16 Fuchs (up from 6 & 7), powder coated semi-gloss black & wrapped in new conti tires
- Sugar scoops converted to H4 headlights with semi-gloss black bezel
- Ducktail with custom rear decklid grille (huge weight savings off rear end over orig whale tail)
- Rear bumperette/trim delete (another solid weight savings)
- Custom rear lower valance to accommodate centre exit exhaust (to be installed)
MECHANICAL
- Later model Carrera suspension, lowered & aligned by Porsche - feels PERFECT
- Numbers matching 3.0L and 915 both professionally rebuilt by Porsche using OEM parts...bone dry underneath
- Dansk centre-exit exhaust - more weight off the back, very little back pressure, super rev happy, lots of pops and snarls
INTERIOR
- Full conversion from beige to black - inc. RS lightweight carpet kit with rear seat delete
- A/C delete (still has heat though)
- Centre console delete
- Momo prototipo + hub adapter (and Porsche crest horn button)
- Radio delete with hidden bluetooth receiver, wired to brand new 6.5" Alpine coaxial speakers
- RS door panels
- LED ambient lighting under dash
- Black RS-style cloth seats (subject to change...we'll see)
- Handmade 917-style shift ****, with short shifter
- Front trunk chassis brace with RS carpet kit
Probably more than I'm forgetting, but I'll update as things come to mind. Feels super light, twitchy yet planted, stable yet nerve-racking, encouraging yet frustrating, I like it. Definitely has a personality.
