Default Intro - New 911 owner - 1984 Targa Whale Tail

Hey all. A decade into owning Porsche's and I purchase my first 911. All the previous have been 987/986/981. The car is spectacular with full service records and rolls and runs like it's new. Coming from a GT4 and totally thrilled. Looking forward into digging into all things 911 as I am very familiar with the mid-engine platform, but not at all with rear-engine and an older car. Plenty of fun projects to have in the near future.

Thanks,
John

Congratulations! Beautiful car! Mines a 83 targa with a tail :-)
Hows the driving experience compare to the newer machines?

Honestly it's pretty remarkable. So far the things I miss vs the new cars are power steering, a more precise shifting experience and a better seating position. Those would be the negatives.

The steering in the 'old' 911 is phenomenal. It makes the GT4 steering feel like it's dampened with marshmallows. I've never been a big 'power' guy...so plenty of oomph in the 911 for me. I'm more having to get used to the rear-engine aspect of driving vs mid-engine...so careful times for me right now. For street driving, the Targa is definitely more fun and engaging than my more recent 981's. Super thrilled. Now I have a ton of projects on it along with an equal amount of research.

Congrats on "finally" owning a real Porsche! I started in the new P-car 911 world and once I bought this, game over. She's a beauty and how many miles?

Thanks - I'm at 109K for miles. I have nearly 150 pages of service records on it. Unreal.

Nice work! Just picked up an 86 Targa, in St the feeling awesome. Enjoy! Don’t worry about miles. If it performs good and doesn’t drink oil , you’re good.

Wow, that's great! Note you don't have a "whale tail", it's a Carrera tail. The whale tail, is what came on the 930 Turbos and the 3.2 gen turbo look package.
