Default Help w/ Low RPM Symptoms

Hi All,

Quick question for the group. Here are my symptoms for 1983 911SC...

1. From cold car starts first crank no problem.
2. RPM hits 600 to 800 then climbs to around 1200 RPM
3. Settles down to around 800 - 850 RPM - a bit lower than before
4. I head out of the driveway in first
5. The first shift I do from first to second feels like I'm almost going to stall the car.
6. Next shifts are fine.
7. Start from hot is fine.

Car has zero oil leaks and doesn't smoke on startup often (maybe 1 in every 10 starts and then it's just a puff).

I'm wondering what would cause this low RPM shift. I haven't changed my driving habits. As well, in traffic the car used to do ok crawling in second and will still do it but it kind of chugs. I also feel that when I rev-match from 3rd down to 2nd it's a bit harder to get the RPMs up high.

I've owned the car for two years now. It had a valve adjustment done prob 3 years ago but since then probably only put approx 1500 miles on it. It seems like this might need a valve adjustment. Am I right to assume that Porsche probably assumed these cars would be driven 15,000 miles per year so valve adjustment every 2 years? What is the right interval when the miles are low?

Thanks all,
Matt

After exhaustive investigation I came up with "1983 911SC Slate Blue Metallic" from the posters photo.

No, It's not a valve adjustment issue.

Ok. The other thing I was thinking is the OXS sensor. Last year before I put the car away I could hear the ticking from behind the dash of what people say is the OXS countdown timer. Slow tick at slow speeds, fast at high speeds. This year the sound is gone.

However, I thought maybe the OXS sensor doesn't kick in at first start but maybe I'm wrong.

Might need to have your idle mixture checked.
