Default Oil tank issue

Hi Gents,
After standing for a few days/week or so, my 83 SC leaks oil from the tank into the crank case, as I suppose they all do by now.
Is this an easy fix or a big deal?
Regards

I don't think it's a problem at all. Do you get a lot of smoking on startup after it's been sitting for a while, or oil leaks? Rothsport makes a check valve to prevent it, costs about $300 at Pelican parts. Not sure what it would cost to get one in South Africa though.

Here is an install tutorial: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart...stallation.htm

Thanks Mark,
Much appreciated, just a little smoke on start up, no leaks, thanks.
I have a few vintage and classic cars and also some vintage aeroplanes and often order parts from EU, UK and USA without any problems or difficulty.
Thanks again for the heads up.

Hi Strj,
Oil check before start reviles no oil on dipstick and oil quantity indication also indicates zero oil in tank.
As I said above, smoking on start up and then while idling oil quantity gauge slowly comes up and dipstick level slowly comes up as well, until correct oil quantity indication return. Takes about 2 to 3 minutes. Oil pressure on stat up is normal.

that is normal... you should never show oil on a cold engine with engine not running or if its just cold. . it is not a static oil check .. that is why oil has to be at operating temperature with the car running on a level surface. it is a dynamic check of the oil running through the system back to the tank with the internal thermostat open.

Thanks Iceman,
Much appreciated. I understand the system and what you are saying, thanks. I am probably a little impatient and was expecting the oil to show a little quicker.
Thanks gents.

Chris
