SSI's into straight pipes, no muffs or cats..FTW! Just kidding of course, I am still running stock HE's with cat bypass and Bursch muff. I was tempted to try straight pipes but wont if I am going to lose power.

Hi Randy:
3.2's are on the fence,....with OEM emissions-type cams, the SSI's are fine. With "S" cams or bigger, one should use 1 5/8" headers or heat exchangers.
Regarding mufflers, we've had good luck with Monty & Dansk mufflers. Others do not hold up anywhere near as well. We just finished installing a 3.6 RS-spec motor into an SC and used a custom GHL heat exchanger/muffler combo. The sound level was very very nice without being intrusive and we'll see how well it holds up.

I've got a B&B on my 89 carrera, it came that way from the previous owner. It is loud, and the attachment bands are rusted in a way they I would have to cut them to remove the muffler.
The sound is very loud and not in a good way, it makes the care sound like its running on 5 cyclinders, I want to replace but don't want to spend the moneyh just yet.

Steve (or anyone interested), I have a '89 3.2. Since SSI's are on the fence as it relates to 3.2's, what would you recommend as an alternative setup for performance at a reasonable cost? How difficult is this to do yourself? Thanks, Kevin

I installed early heat exchanger's from a 74 on my 80SC and installed the muffler from my previuos 73E and I tell tou guy's what a difference, I dont know of SSI would have done better but for now IM very happy with the results, my car just when over 240K miles and pulls very strong.

Brad, the SSI's for your car will have the O2 sensor bung welded in. You will want to keep the sensor in the loop.
Ernie, the early <75 heat exchangers are the same as SSIs...just not in stainless. You just have to weld on a bung for the O2 sensor...
HK, I have a dual out Fabspeed on my 87 930 and am going back to stock set up with B&B headers in place of the stock HEs. I will be posting the dual out with stock HEs soon for sale.
Each to their own I guess...

B&B is the better choice for 3.6-liter motors (until SSI makes a larger model).
Resonance with the B&Bs comes from the muffler, not the headers. B&B headers are very well-made. The mufflers, in my opinion, are garbage. I've got one on my 911 now, and it has come apart at almost every seam. I can't wait to throw it in the trash, and put on a Flowmaster that will last longer for about 1/10 the price.
