Hi Jeremy:

I was told by an old detailing pro that you can do everything by hand that you can do with a machine (all though slower by hand). So, I guess I was never in a rush to get a PC polisher.

But, please enlighten me... Would you (or anyone else?) expand on what benefits the PC polisher gives you? I would assume waxing and polishing times are quicker. What else?

Thanks in advance for your opinions,

Jay

It is like a random orbit sander - because the orbits are ranomized the chance of swirl marks is much reduced compared to doing it by hand.

You can call Meguairs and talk to them about it for more explanation.

The machine gets rid of all the very fine scratches that have accumulated over the years in the paint and gives the color much more depth. I really didn't think it would make that much difference until I parked my car next to my friend who has a red 1985 Targa with 29,000 miles. As you can imagine his paint is in very very good condition - but mine "glowed" next to him. He was like - what have you done to your car??

Needless to say, he borrowed my Porter Cable polisher and spruced his car up.

Here's two red cars at a recent gathering. his car is one of them - which one glows?

Jeremy:

Thank you for the info. I would assume the Targa in the foreground would be the car with the more shine to it. What do you use as a polish when you are using the PC polisher?

Thanks,

Jay

Anyone have any experience of Auto Glym? It seems to do the job for Aston & Rolls (or do they just endorse it?)

I'm with Jeremy... another Griots user.

Best of Show, Fine Hand Polish, their 3 step machine polish and Speed Shine in between. It may be pricey, but over the year or so that a bottle lasts, it's cheap. I buy Speed Shine by the gallon.

"It is AMAZING!!!!!! "

- OK, this is what I caution against --- an opinion with no methods or test to back it up. I advise people to do what I did -- test 2 or 3 likely candidates and see what you get. Also have others evaluate the look w/o telling them which is which beforehand.

I do like P21s for its "green" attitude and nice smell. Also, see aobve wer=here a poster pointed out the small price differential per year.

I think with detailing, there are many different methods and products that will give very similar results. At the last concours judging event I went to, event top dog 'experts' disagreed on what to use and what works best. One guy (who's won a lot of national events) flat out disagreed with another judge about a particular product and method. The other judge was a national winner too. Who's right? They both were.

Use what you like and what gives you the best results. There are so many good products out there to use.

Living in the grim regions of the North of Scotland, the paintwork can take a right beating, especially over the most enjoyable twisty mountain roads.

Nothing, but nothing brings the car up better than Autoglym products.

Just about to detail the car when it stops snowing! Will take some pics and post them........................

I like P21S wax & cleanser, just as good as zymol but doesn't smell like coconuts (doesn't really smell like anything). I also like Mother's products (use Mother's clay bar), I use their car wash/wax between waxings (it is gentle and smells like bubble gum). 3-M Imperial hand glaze, followed by a good quality wax is an awesome (& time consuming) conbination.

I have used Zaino Bros. products, also excellent shine, but it's chemically different, not a carnuba wax but some kind of "space age polymer" stuff. Real good for clear coated paint surfaces.

What really o****s is the surface prep before the wax. Spend a lot of time on that.
