Question 1981 911sc Gas Smell Question

Hi I have a 1981 911 SC and if I roll the driver's side window down, I get a frequent gas smell, more so when in motion. I replaced the gas cap since the problem arose but it still continues. Any ideas of what could be going on? Thanks

Hi,

You have a leak in the evaporative control system; the plumbing that connects the tank to the charcoal cannister to control gas fumes. Look for a split or damaged rubber hose.

yup if your car is like mine the leak is in the hose that runs to the gas tank from the evap canister behind the drivers side headlight under the front fender. tubing was split and leaking.

Cool. I'll check it out. It may be a braided hose. Not surprised that it should be replaced, it's getting pretty brittle from age.

Thanks Guys!
