Newbie looking at purchasing a 1973 RSR tribute/replica; any and all advice needed

I’ve been looking for a car that stirs the inner kid in me. While at a red light, a 1973 RSR replica pulled up next to me last week. So here I am seeking advice on what too be knowledgeable about during test drive and visual inspection. From what I know, it was originally a T. Current owner bought it in 1979 and is the third owner. Sometime after that point he turned it into a RSR. The car is not for sale but he looked at me and said he’s ready to sell due to health reasons. We carried on a conversation between red traffic lights and exchanged numbers before the third traffic light turned green.
Over the last week, I’ve perused the net to get as educated as I could. There is too much to learn so I could really use a quick cliff notes lesson on what things to look for and what to ask. Price hasn’t been discussed- yet. I’ll be test driving it in a few days. Thanks in advance for your collective input. I’m looking forward to learning about these cars and possibly buying a car I’ll probably keep for a lifetime.

It is impossible to help you with this as we have no idea what was done. I would say get a qualified air cooled guy to look it over carefully

The prices are highly variable. It’s all in what was done and by who and when. You definitely need a very honest shop that knows these to give an assessment.

You really need to decide what it is that you find appealing about one of these and go drive a couple. No two of these are built the same and they will all have very different personalities.

The PPI is critical, this will include a leak down test to indicate engine condition. You need to know if there is any damage underneath, RUST or leaks.
have a very experienced shop check it over for braking, trans behavior, handling. You do not want to be holding the bag for a big trans overhaul or a major rust repair or deal with poor crash repair.
A good mechanic can check a lot, but having a lot of air cooled Porsche experience will give you more accurate info and likely estimates for fixing what the car needs, so you can fairly approach negotiations.
Receipts will tell you a lot about the care the car has had and help you planfuture maintenance. Stuff you cannot see, clutch replacement, wheel bearing pack/replacement, cv pack suspension bushing replacement corner weighting, alignment, shocks.
as you know, repairs on our cars are very expensive.

As others have stated, impossible to answer without more info. I think a general list of questions:
1) Conversion with fiberglass or metal parts.
1a) who did the work, what brand parts were used.
2) what suspension mods does it have
3) Trans / Motor matching #s? - 2.4, 2.7. 3.????
4) does it have heat
5) how are panel gaps
6) maintenance history
7) photos of conversion/ bodywork/ paint work
Car could be worth 50 k - 150K

I feel it would be important to know who built the car and if they used genuine porsche motorsport parts.
Usually most of these would go for around 50k but BAT has sold quite a few for much more. that is the only place I have seen these go for 150s.
is engine matching numbers?
my first thought is the guy at the light next to you probably doesn't have the right car for you based on chance.
