Default UNUSUAL VACUUM PROBLEM

1978 Porsche 911 SC
I was in a gas station to get gas and the pump was shut down so I moved to another pump, car would not idle so later I checked
When the gas hatch is open the car will not idle, close the metal hatch cover and all is well. The gas tank fill cap was in place.
This did not make sense to me, looking for some ideas

You are either missing the restrictor in the cc breather or have some other vacuum leak in the system

Bill, don't you mean the oil tank breather hose? I'm pretty sure in 1978 the restrictor is integral to the metal elbow that comes out the back of the CIS boot, and there isn't one in the hose.

Gas hatch not oil cap. That doesn't make sense. Is it repeatable ?
