Default Possible vapor lock?

Hey all. good to be back on the board. Been busy lately and got some new cool stuff for the p-car but I have a pretty weird prob.
For the last couple of years the car's idle would differ slightly like there might be a vacume prob. Not even 100rpm but you definitely hear it. As of the other day, everytime I came to a stop, it would rev violently. It would go up to 3-4.5 ythou and down to 200 or 0 revs it might stall it might not. I try to catch it at 3000 hold it and then wait for the light to turn. Driving home Sunday I had to blow 4 stop signs so the car wouldn't die. It seem to lag at the bottom of 1st and second before making the rev climb. This may be similar to burnsa post (Andy). I am not all that sure. I have canvassed the engine as much as this novice can. I wanted to see what you all thought before I took it to the wrench.

Thanks a million for the help and again it is good to be back.

(BTW-new stuff...new upholstery up front, new shift bag, and black limo tint against the mid night blue!)
