Default hi beam

Hey there everyone:

Model: '88 911 cab
Problem: Hi beam will not go on when activated.
Question: Is there a headlight relay and if so where exactly is it located in the car. The fuse box has NO diagram of fuses /relay identification.

If its not the relay then it must be in the switch in the steering wheel unless you think there s another area to check first before I go that direction.
Have any thoughts on this?
thanks..cabdriver

Well, have you checked the bulbs? Yes, they can fail simultaneously - or more likely 1 blows and the other one goes immediately after due to a voltage surge. It's happened to me.

There is no relay. Check your fuses if they're OK it is most likely the column mounted switch (a very common problem). I just did this repair. Lots of posts regarding the process. Buy the relay kit upgrade from Marcus Sucro while your at it.

Good luck

Andrew's advice is right on. The stalk switch often will go bad in our vintage cars. Replace the switch (Pelican Parts sells it for about $80) and add the Sucro relay kit while you're at it.

My switch went bad last week too. First I lost the flash-to-pass, then the hi-beams and finally the headlights crapped out. I was able to modify the switch to function but there's a new one coming for my car soon.
