I'm in the process of fitting my 72 2.4 with carbs into an 81 Targa. Ive run into a problem with the connector for the CDI box. The 2.4 comes with a 4 pin connector. The 81 has a 6 pin socket. Is there anything I can do to get the ignition on the 2.4 motor to work in the 81? Apparently there is a difference in the type of distributor the 81s used (breaker-less). Im dying to get the car on the road. Ill consider all reasonable options. Would an MSD system resolve the issues? Thanks for any advice. Rich Lorenz
Steve, spent the day hooking up the MSD. The motor fired for the first time in 12 years. Wow, what a sweet sound. I spent the better part of 2 hours trying to get the tach to work. No joy; even with the Tach Adapter that MSD sells. I think I'm going to try and borrow a '73 tach and give it a try. Thanks again, Rich
One thing tho, SC tachs sometimes need the tach adaptor, MSD 8920 and connect as follows: Red goes to the ignition switch; Black goes to ground; White goes to the tach output on the ignition box and Purple goes to the tach.
BTW, I've been to Disneyland many times and I never knew they sold Ignition systems. Boy, if a Burger and fries costs $ 10.00, just what should I expect to pay for a MSD system, there.
Lorenfb, a more constructive comment would have taken more thought and knowledge? Would you care to share with all of us why you made such a broad and all-encompassing statement?
