Default 997 3.6 oil change

Is there a way to more or less completely dump the old oil when changing? The engine holds 11 quarts. I seldom see more than 8 quarts going back
in. Besides changing when the motor is hot, is there a method for getting a better drain?

You should be getting more than 8 out. Should be closer to 8.25 or 8.5 with the filter. But no, nothing you can do - or should do - to get more oil out.

There’s only one or two good reasons to try to get all the oil out, and that is if the oil is horribly bad, such as large amounts of water, or extremely long intervals, or when the oil has been contaminated. In that case, you change the oil and filter with a cheaper oil of the same brand and weight of the oil you plan to end up with. Start and run the car, drive around the block and get it back up to temperature, then perform the 2nd oil change (change the oil in the oil filter housing, but you can reuse the filter, since it’s brand new). You have now changed out 97% of the oil. Again, there is no reason to do this if you have performed regular oil changes, but in case you acquire a car that’s had 30,000-mile oil change intervals, or a car that’s been sitting for 5+ years, contamination, etc.

Great information. Thanks for answering my question! I am a regular oil changer. No more than 4-5K or one year since purchasing back in '08. Just 2K on it this time.
We'll see if they can get to 9 quarts this time! Heading down to Rennsport next month with a fresh batch of Mobil One! Can't wait!

That’s about as perfect as you can get. The inside of you engine might look like new. Great job.
