1970 Time Machine
I'm helping my friend sell his car.
He rescued it Red from a Long Island NY Front yard in 2002.
Vin is 911012040three.
!970 T Karman Coupe.
We have the engine number, but can't see the tranny number. so can't get COA.
The number fits 911.07 6105000+ Production data.
The tranny is a 5speed, Where would we expect to find the tranny stamp?
Thanks,
Alan
Thanks,
Alan

Sure you can still get a COA. The order form says that if you don't provide both the engine and transmission serial numbers, then they both won't show up on the COA. But you can get a COA with just the engine number. I think they want to avoid telling people that don't actually have a real matching numbers car what the numbers should be, to avoid fraud.
The transmission number is stamped on the underside, and is often worn off or not legible anyway. And even when Porsche did provide the transmission number on the certificates, my understanding was that it was often wrong - it's the part of the car where the factory records are the least reliable.

The transmission numbers are stamped on the bottom ribs of the differential part of the case.
In some 'cases', these get damaged by contact with parking curbs or worse.
Porsche provides the original numbers with the COA and all you need for that is the VIN and proof of ownership.

I seem to remember a thread recently when Porsche changed the way they provide COAs. Found it: https://rennlist.com/forums/911-foru...on-number.html
That's consistent with the current application for a COA on the PCNA website. You have to tell them the serial numbers on your engine and tranny. If they are correct, then I think they will both appear on the COA. So if the number is gone from Alan's friend's gearbox, then I think he's out of luck.
Alan, I think PCNA will confirm numbers over the phone - so if you call them they will tell you if your engine number and VIN go together. Maybe if the gearbox has at least part of the serial number visible, they will confirm that over the phone too.

The numbers are worn off of the case.
Casting / Part 911-three01-1010R
Reverse is over first.
Seems to be: Production run 7190001- 7192529.
The owner can contact PCNA and see what he can get.
Long May 911s rule!
