My Georgia/Florida Car got a taste of snow it?s first day home in New Jersey. I shrugged off the damp floor mats as I did have snow on my feet when I got into the car a few times.

When I was on the floor installing Rennline Pedals, I noticed just how wet the mats were and removed them to dry. What remained were puddles on the passenger and driver sides, front and back.

I suspected door leaks, but that did not explain the moisture in the back leading up to the rear seats.

I have a few things I had planned to do this winter vacation, but before I do anything, I want to dry out the interior of the car. I figure moisture cannot be good for the wires that are running along the floor of the car....

so today I figured I would remove the carpeting in preparation for my installation of new 911 RS door panels and carpeting to transform the interior from beige to black and gray?

I found the boot that covers the shift linkage and prevents water from coming in was not secured properly. That is fixed.

I found broken glass, so I am guessing the passenger front or back window was broken at some point....

I have found that one screw is missing from the driver and passenger seats (of the four holding the seat to the rails).

I verified the sunroof is not leaking; the front vent is not leaking, and have not been able to get the rear windshield to leak (that was my #1 suspect).

I am glad I have another week of vacation to search out the leak. Until I get a car cover, the car will have to stay in the garage when it rains.....

Any suggestions or thoughts?

Rear quarter windows.

Ayup, water doesn't leak UP from the floorboard (unless you submerge it). Water leaks DOWN from above. Sounds like rear quarter glass (I've heard they are NOTORIOUS for leaking). Rotsa ruck, man. Good thing you had enough snap to get the carpet out and prevent cancer from growing...

Tomorrow is the water test. Once everything is dry, and it is well on it's way to being dry, I will hose each window one at a time.

I'll post results as I discover where the leaks are coming from.

i was gonna say rear window seal.. (notorious in older 911/2's as water sits on the bottom corners, seaps in and goes down). either way, tear out that old horse hair sound dampening and padding. they trap water and are the reason so many old porsches have rotted away.

lil suggestion.. do the por 15 treatment, no more rust ever.

Harry can you elaborate on the por 15 treatment???

I had heard years ago of a chemical that you could paint on rust to stop it...

Dont allow snow to melt on top of your car , always sweep of the area where the sunroof is. I learned the hard way on one of my cars.

I had over an inch of water in the back seat floorboard of the 74. It wasn't rear quarter windows......it was the sunroof. Check the seals when the sunroof is closed.

For the record, I was turning left into my street, stopped waiting for oncoming traffic to clear so I could turn left. I was pulled over to the center line to allow cars to pass (as I always do) and as I always do, I kept my wheels straight, and watched my rearview to make sure the cars passing me on my right had enough room.

When I looked in my rearview I saw a car coming right at me and the driver (and the passenger) was looking down at the floor, not the road.

She never looked up.

I need a Scotch. On the bright side, I found a Porsche specialty place locally....I'll stop down on Monday.

Wow, notch one up for humanity then, eh?? It is a shame that the result of your accident used to be the norm. Nowadays (at in MY big ole Metropolis) it is VERY much the exception. Good on her (and you)!

Hey, what are RS door panels? Some stripped down version, I presume. What year model are they from? Currious...
