Exclamation Best years for a 911

My dad is looking at buying a 911 carrera 4, possibly just a carrera. What are the big things he should look for and what are the best years to look for. One he found was a 1989 carrera 4, but we don't want to look until we know what to look at. The 1989 was right in the price range - mid 20's at most.

someone please let me know what to look for - I know more about the 944 - the 911 is a whole nother beast!

From 89-94, the C4 was based on the 964 platform. 95-98 was the 993 and 99 on is the 996. All have their strengths and weaknesses. They also look very different. If your budget is mid $20's, your best bet would be the 964 but IMO, that is too much to pay for a 89 C4.

Ryan:

The early 964's, (as mentioned above) from 1989 to 1991 can have some potential issues. Your best bet would be to search the 964 board for some more info . But, keep in mind that all of these shortcomings have reliable and permanant fixes.

$25,000 will buy a very nice 964 in today's market.

I agree. A 964 would be the vest value (and the quickest). An 87-89 Carrera would be a good back-up choice.

I would avoid the earlier 4WD models, unless you're planning on snow driving.

I have three kids - two under 4 - they really like the "cool car" - glad I don't have wife pressure.
