Question Purpose of these port holes in the tub from a 1969 911

Does anyone know the purpose of these two slats in the tub? (this is from a 1969 911).

All the old cars have them, my guess was either to vent gas tank fumes or to provide air venting for closing the front trunk or both.

Thanks, Catorce.

I also noticed these on my 1974 911 when I took the rear tire off; however, there was only 1 rather than 2.

Venting. Very normal on those cars. Later, Porsche integrated a better fuel tank vent within the refueling port.

Thanks, Edgy01. Very helpful. I don't have the louvers on mine and a guy at the dealership wanted to seal them up. Now I know better not to do it!
